About

You're a lonesome astronaut in space. Your space station is hit by an asteroid and your goal is to make it to your escape pod and head back to Earth.

This is RetroScape. If you're a fan of portal, you'll love this game.

*Disclaimer* : The production of this game was entirely done in a week for Brackey's Game Jam 2020.2

As you traverse through your space ship, you must unlock each door to get to the next room. How do you unlock these doors?  Well, in order to solve each puzzle, you realize you must go back in time to look for clues, get past debris, air holes, and many more obstacles.  You must use your rewind ability, watch your oxygen levels, and health simultaneously as you try to solve our puzzles. And YES, every puzzle is solvable, don't give up. Even if it means that you must "trap yourself" in the present state ;)

There are many different mechanics in the game but we didn't make a tutorial intentionally. We want YOU to figure out how your ability works & how to solve our 10 puzzles.

CONTROLS:

WASD - Movement

E - Interactables

Q - Rewind

TIPS:

A lot of things in the game are interactable, which includes the following:

Buttons | Switches  | Turret Switches | Cubes | Symbols | Oxygen & Health Packs

When you use your rewind ability, after moving in the past you teleport back to your original position in the present. This is key to solving some levels.

Turrets are activated in the present but deactivated in the past. Unless you turn them on in the past ;)

While in the past, your ships hull isn't breached, which means you don't lose oxygen while you're in the past. This is key to managing your oxygen.

Hull Breaches decrease your oxygen loss rate substantially. DON'T GO NEAR THEM in the (present state).

In order to get access to some cubes you must use a cube (maybe even multiple)

We wanted space vibes for our game and we reached out to an artist by the name of A.L.L.I.S.O.N. Arthur gave us permission to use his music in our game since we have no intent of selling it on steam or other platforms. We just wanted to make this game for the game jam and for fun! We have proof via email and Instagram of him giving us permission if anyone has an issue with it :) He also can't wait to try it out! He was stoked that we wanted to use his music!

His Instagram: @alison_sythns

I'd highly recommend listening to him. To my knowledge, his soundtracks are available on all platforms.

SFX attributions:

All sound effects do not belong to us; however, they are royalty free and we also edited some to our liking.

Fun facts:

When we built the complete game for the first time, nothing worked. Builds do not like OnValidate() functions!

Enter into the DEV MODE!

At the main menu, if you press shift, backspace, enter simultaneously, you enter into DEV MODE. Entering into dev mode, you don't lose oxygen and all doors are unlocked. On your numpad, each level is assigned to the corresponding number. Level 1 = 1 on the numpad. 0 is level 10.

This game has roughly 2000 lines of code across 27 scripts!

Really impressive game. Love the art style and the music. The gameplay is both challenging and fun. Well done!

Thank you for the comment! We really appreciate it!

At first it was difficult for me to catch the mechanics, but, as soon as you get used to it, you realize that it is a great game. I enjoyed it.

Thank you! if you ever get stuck, you can watch our walkthrough, read our description for tips, or enter into dev mode!

neat love the mechanics

CHeck out our awful game tho XD https://itch.io/game/edit/723371

Thank you! that link doesn’t seem to work? maybe re send it and i’ll gladly try it for you!

Awesome, I love the mechanic. Fun to play

Thanks for the support! <3

pretty fun, but the oxygen mechanic is a little unfair. i would choose to get rid of it or be a little more generous with the oxygen consumption.

also the turret keep destroying my cube, this is just frustrating because of that the game softlock me. either fix this or make a restart level button

We appreciate your feedback! We intentionally made the oxygen consumption a bit fast to force you to  go into the past to stop the rate. We found using the rewind ability right off cooldown balanced out the oxygen. If you still get stuck, watch our walkthrough. We go through every level <3 We also made a dev mode that takes away oxygen consumption if you just want to solve our puzzles. read description for more info on that.

A great game with no errors! It's really fun to play and it's really unique.

Thanks for the support! We tried thinking outside the box on this one!

This game is so much fun and unique! I love where you guys are taking it! I will definitely be playing it more and I can tell a lot of hard work went into it!

Thanks! We were on the grind this week to make it happen!

Great Game. Thinking outside the box

Thanks for the Review! That was the goal! <3

This game is very fun! Right when I think I've learned how to play, the devs throw in a curve ball. Im then forced to rethink and learn how the new mechanics work. Id highly recommend reading the description first before playing! 10/10. Also, this game gets very hard. But don't give up! I was able to beat all levels, after about 20 deaths or so haha! No matter what, I always wanted to get to the next level.

Thanks for review!, means a lot! Hope you enjoyed playing!

Great game! Getting started without a tutorial was a little hard but reading the description really gave me a push in the right direction. Definitely worth getting passed the learning curve.

It is definitely worth getting passed the learning curve. And yes, reading the description gives you many tips. Thanks for the review!
